Lutheran Baseball has been very fortunate to have very good players at first base. This position is very important as this player is involved in so many plays. Certainly a first baseman needs to be able to catch a thrown ball, but there are many other plays that need to be made;
-Pop ups in fair and foul territories
-Fielding bunts
-Throwing to other bases
-Being a cut-off man
-Being able to move his feet to catch throws wide of first base or high
-Catching throws on bounce as some throws do not get to first base in the air
-Giving confidence to fellow infielders that he will catch their throws
